Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has long regarded sustainability as central to the future of the lamb, beef and pork sectors in Wales.
From our publication of our landmark ‘Roadmap’ document some seven years ago, and a practical guide to on-farm environmental improvement which went alongside it, HCC has worked with partners across the supply chain to promote win-win solutions that benefit our environment and our farmers.
The story behind Welsh red meat – quality combined with traceability, traditional practices on our farms combined with innovation, and producing in harmony with our environment, is central to the message we wish to convey to consumers at home and abroad over the next decades.
We are therefore delighted to be involved with the inaugural Wales Real Food and Farming Conference, to hear from a range of perspectives.
In particular, during the event we will be showcasing on our stand our Red Meat Development Programme, a 5-year project as part of the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
This project has several strands, including to encourage proactive animal health management, to conduct research along the supply chain to ensure product quality and consistency while reducing waste, and boosting the sustainability of upland farming by applying the very latest in sheep breeding techniques.

Mae Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) wedi ystyried cynaliadwyedd yn ganolog i ddyfodol y sectorau cig oen, cig eidion a phorc yng Nghymru ers amser maith.
Ers cyhoeddi’n dogfen a osododd drywydd amgylcheddol i’r diwydiant rhyw saith mlynedd yn ôl, a chanllaw ymarferol i wella’r amgylchedd ar y fferm a aeth ochr yn ochr ag ef, mae HCC wedi gweithio gyda phartneriaid ar draws y gadwyn gyflenwi i hyrwyddo atebion sydd o fudd i’n hamgylchedd a’n ffermwyr fel ei gilydd.
Mae’r stori y tu ôl i gig coch Cymru – ansawdd ynghyd ag olrheinedd, arferion traddodiadol ar ein ffermydd ynghyd ag arloesi, a chynhyrchu mewn cytgord â’n hamgylchedd, yn ganolog i’r neges yr ydym am ei chyfleu i gwsmeriaid gartref a thramor dros y degawdau nesaf.
Rydym felly’n falch iawn o fod yn rhan o Gynhadledd Fwyd a Ffermio Go Iawn gyntaf Cymru, i glywed o ystod o safbwyntiau.
Yn benodol, yn ystod y digwyddiad byddwn yn arddangos ar ein stondin ein Rhaglen Datblygu Cig Coch, prosiect 5 mlynedd sy’n rhan o Raglen Cymunedau Gwledig Llywodraeth Cymru – Rhaglen Datblygu Gwledig 2014 – 2020, a ariennir gan Gronfa Amaethyddol Ewropeaidd ar gyfer Gwledig Datblygu a Llywodraeth Cymru.
Mae gan y prosiect hwn sawl elfen, gan gynnwys annog rheolaeth iechyd anifeiliaid rhagweithiol, cynnal ymchwil ar hyd y gadwyn gyflenwi i sicrhau ansawdd a chysondeb cynnyrch wrth leihau gwastraff, a hybu cynaliadwyedd ffermio yn yr ucheldir trwy hybu’r technegau bridio defaid diweddaraf.
