Welcome by Gwilym Dyfri Jones, University of Wales Trinity St David.  Then we welcome Sheila Dillon, award-winning food journalist, who is probably best known for presenting BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme.

2. Hinsawdd o newid: gosod y trywydd tuag at Anthroposin llewyrchus / A climate of change: setting the trajectory towards a flourishing Anthropocene

Rydym yn byw yn yr Anthroposen, a nodweddir yn gyffredinol fel cyfnod o effaith negyddol aruthrol gan fodau dynol.  Ond a allwn ni newid cyfeiriad, a gosod trywydd tuag at Anthroposen llewyrchus?  Pa rôl allai cynhyrchu bwyd ei chwarae yn hyn o beth? Bydd y drafodaeth banel hon yn archwilio sut mae cynhyrchu bwyd yng Nghymru yn cael ei effeithio gan newid yn yr hinsawdd, a sut y gallai helpu gyda lliniaru; rôl cynhyrchu bwyd wrth gefnogi ecosystemau iach; a sut mae meithrin perthnasoedd cryf rhwng pobl yn bwysicach nawr nag erioed.

We are living in the Anthropocene, which is generally characterised as a period of overwhelmingly negative impact by humans.  But can we change direction, and set a trajectory towards a flourishing Anthropocene?  What role might food production play in this? This panel discussion will explore how food production in Wales is being affected by climate change, and how it could help with mitigation; the role of food production in supporting healthy ecosystems; and how building strong relationships between people is more important now than ever.

Bydd y sesiwn hon yn trafod amaethgoedwigaeth ac yn archwilio’r potensial ar gyfer coed ar ffermydd, gan gynnwys cynigion y Cynllun Ffermio Cynaliadwy ar gyfer cyflawni’r ddau drothwy 10% i fod yn gymwys ar gyfer taliadau cyffredinol.  Sut mae coed a gwrychoedd ar y fferm yn cyfrannu orau at y trothwyon cynefin lled-naturiol a gorchudd coed, a sut mae’r ddau drothwy hyn yn rhyngweithio?  Sut mae coed yn cyfrannu at sero net ar y fferm?  Pa wasanaethau hanfodol eraill y gallant eu darparu?  Pa fath o gymorth ar y fferm sydd ei angen i leihau camgymeriadau cynnar wrth gyflwyno systemau newydd?

This session will discuss agroforestry and explore the potential for trees on farms, including the Sustainable Farming Scheme proposals for delivering the two 10% thresholds to qualify for universal payments.  How do trees and hedges on the farm best contribute to the semi-natural habitat and tree cover thresholds, and how do these two thresholds interact?  How do trees contribute to on-farm net zero?  What other vital services can they deliver?  What kind of on-farm support is needed to minimise early mistakes when introducing new systems?

Er mwyn adeiladu system fwyd well, ac felly cymdeithas well, mae angen i bob un ohonom gymryd rhan, boed yn wirfoddolwyr, yn weithwyr yn y sector cyhoeddus neu’n berchnogion busnes. Sut mae rhoi’r hyder a’r weledigaeth sydd eu hangen ar bobl os ydyn nhw am ddarganfod eu hasiantaeth a gweithredu? Mae gan wybodaeth dechnegol, datblygiad personol a rhwydweithio oll ran i’w chwarae. Yma byddwn yn clywed sut mae pobl yn rhannu sgiliau garddio a maeth ag eraill, ac yn dod o hyd i’w cyfraniad unigryw.

Building a better food system, and therefore a better society, needs all of us to take part, whether we are volunteers, public sector employees or business owners.  How do we give people the confidence and the vision that they need if they are to discover their agency and take action?  Technical knowledge, personal development and networking all have a part to play.  Here we will hear how people are sharing skills in gardening and nutrition with others, and finding their unique contribution.

Mae treial ar y gweill ym Miosffer Dyfi sy’n edrych ar gau dolenni deunydd organig mewn ffyrdd diogel, hygyrch a chymdeithasol sy’n cynhyrchu cynnyrch ar gyfer cynhaliaeth pridd a thyfu bwyd, lleihau gwastraff a meithrin perthnasoedd.  Gadewch i ni drafod y potensial ar gyfer sefydlu ‘cylchoedd compostio’ rhwng gwastraff / adnoddau bioddiraddadwy (fel rhedyn, gwlân defaid, gwastraff bwyd) yn deillio o weithrediadau domestig, masnachol a fferm a safleoedd tyfu bwyd, gan gyfrannu felly at economi gwastraff cylchol yn lleol, a hyd yn oed lefel genedlaethol.

A trial is in progress in the Dyfi Biosphere looking at closing organic matter loops in safe, accessible and social ways that generate products for soil sustenance and food growing, reduce waste and build relationships.  Let’s discuss the potential for establishing ‘composting circles’ between biodegradable wastes / resources (such as bracken, sheep wool, food waste) arising from domestic, commercial and farm scale operations and food growing sites, hence contributing to a circular waste economy at the local and even national level.

Bu y sesiwn hon yn archwilio i ba raddau y mae hadau sydd ar gael ar hyn o bryd yn diwallu anghenion amaethyddiaeth a garddwriaeth amaeth-ecolegol Cymru, ac yn edrych ar ffyrdd o adeiladu system hadau wydn ar gyfer dyfodol ansicr.

This session explored to what extent currently available seed meets the needs of Welsh agro-ecological agriculture and horticulture, and looked at ways to build a resilient seed system for an uncertain future.

Credwn fod mynediad agored a chyfathrebu data wedi’i fapio yn hollbwysig os ydym am gyfleu gwerth dyrannu tir ar gyfer bwyd cymunedol.

Byddwn yn rhannu ein hymagwedd a’r gweithgareddau rydym wedi bod yn ei wneud yn Ffermydd a Gerddi Cymdeithasol trwy ein partneriaeth Mannau Gwyrdd Gwydn.  Byddwn yn cyflwyno Land Explorer – y map ffynhonnell agored rydym yn ei ddefnyddio.  Perllannau cymunedol yw ein safleoedd peilot.  Bydd prosiect ENRaW arall, Tyfu Dyfi, yn amlinellu eu blaenoriaethau ar gyfer rhannu gwybodaeth ddaearyddol. Sut gallen ni rannu data wedi’i fapio i gyfleu gwerth defnyddio tir ar gyfer bwyd cymunedol?

We believe that open access and communication of mapped data is imperative if we’re to communicate the value of allocating land for community food.

We’ll share our approach and the activity we’ve been doing at SF&G through our Resilient Green Spaces partnership.  We’ll introduce Land Explorer – the open-source map we’re using.  Community orchards are our pilot sites.  Our sister ENRaW project, Tyfu Dyfi, will outline their priorities for sharing geographic information.  How can we share mapped data to communicate the value of using land for community food?

In this wide-ranging conversation, Carwyn and Patrick discuss the future of Wales’ food culture. What could it look like? Who will own it? Is there a vision for this future? What does history add to the discussion? How can this bridge the divisions in Wales’ wider society?

Mae gan fwyd y pŵer i dynnu ynghyd sawl agwedd ar fywyd, o arddio a bywyd gwyllt i goginio ac iechyd, yn ogystal ag entrepreneuriaeth a chreadigrwydd.  Mae’n ffordd ddelfrydol o gyflwyno meddylfryd systemau i ysgolion, lle mae’r cwricwlwm newydd yn gyfle newydd cyffrous i ailystyried addysg, yn ogystal â phrifysgolion a’r llywodraeth.  Yn yr un modd, mae meddylfryd systemau yn hanfodol os ydym am ddatrys y problemau bwyd sy’n ein hwynebu nawr.  Dewch i glywed gan rai prosiectau ysbrydoledig a chyfrannu eich profiadau eich hun.

Food has the power to draw together many aspects of life, from gardening and wildlife to cooking and health, as well as entrepreneurship and creativity.  It is an ideal way to introduce systems thinking to schools, where the new curriculum provides an exciting new opportunity to rethink education, as well as to universities and government.  Equally, systems thinking is essential if we are to solve the food problems we face now.  Come and hear from some inspiring projects and contribute your own experiences.

Mae Hen Gymro yn wenith cynhenid yn Ne-orllewin Cymru a oroesodd mewn llafuriaeth hyd at y 1920au – yn hirach nag unrhyw gwenith cynhenid Prydeinig arall. Yn y sesiwn hon, cawn glywed sut mae’r gwenith gwych yma wedi dod yn ôl yn fyw ac yn ôl i felinau a phobol ar hyd a lled Cymru.  Bydd y siaradwyr yn adrodd am eu rhan eu hunain yn stori Hen Gymro ac yn sôn am ba mor dda mae’n tyfu, cael ei felino a phobi, a bydd yn cynnwys canlyniadau diweddar iawn ymchwil gan IBERS yn edrych ar gyfansoddiad maeth yr hen wenith Cymreig hwn. 

Hen Gymro (“Old Welshman”) is a landrace wheat of South West Wales that clung on in cultivation into the 1920’s – longer than any other British wheat landrace. In this session, we will hear how this wonderful wheat has been brought back to life and back to mills and bakeries across Wales. The speakers will talk about their own part in the Hen Gymro story and will talk about how well it grows, mills and bakes and will include the very recent results of research by IBERS looking at this old Welsh wheat’s nutritional composition.

Mae Deddf Llesiant Cenedlaethau’r Dyfodol yn ei gwneud yn ofynnol i gyrff cyhoeddus yng Nghymru feddwl am effaith hirdymor eu penderfyniadau, gweithio’n well gyda phobl, cymunedau, ei gilydd ac i atal problemau parhaus, e.e. tlodi, anghydraddoldebau iechyd, newid hinsawdd.  Bydd panel o arbenigwyr, a gynullir gan Gynghrair Polisi Bwyd Cymru, yn ystyried a yw egwyddorion atal, integreiddio, cydweithredu, ymwneud, cydbwyso anghenion tymor byr a thymor hir, yn cael eu hadlewyrchu mewn polisi ar draws system fwyd Cymru, a beth yw’r cyfleoedd i wneud hynny.  Mae’r sesiwn yn rhoi cyfle i archwilio’r methiannau presennol yn ein system fwyd a’r cyfleoedd i gyd-greu gweledigaeth gyfannol cyn i’r Bil Bwyd (Cymru) drafft gael ei gyflwyno i’r Senedd.

The Well-being of Future Generations Act requires public bodies in Wales to think about the long-term impact of their decisions, to work better with people, communities, each other and to prevent persistent problems e.g., poverty, health inequalities, climate change.  A panel of experts convened by Food Policy Alliance Cymru will consider whether the Act’s principles of prevention, integration, collaboration, involvement, balancing short-term and long-term needs, are reflected in policy across Wales’ food system, and what the opportunities are for doing so.  The session provides an opportunity to explore the current failures in our food system and the opportunities to co-create a holistic vision ahead of the draft Food (Wales) Bill being presented to the Senedd.
